So I’ve temporarily shelved this whole Anhedonia project. Suxor… I know. Having a job and pushing my skills as a technical “artist” are a bit more important to me at this point. So in light of that I’m going to be starting back up on my reel. My goal is to try and keep the focus somewhat broad, but I’d really like to try and hover in the area of technical art. I guess we’ll see how it goes.

The first project will be picking up where I left off from my last reel. When I finished my current reel, I was really starting to drift into FX. I’d learned how to create a pretty sweet explosion and wanted to use it, however I was limited on time and decided to put the reel together sans explosion. The first piece I’m imagining will use the droid that’s on my reel currently as just a model with light animation. That droid was intended to be a scout/survey droid. Originally, I wanted to create a short scene with him, but again time was the limiting factor. Now that I have some time, the idea is to incorporate the droid with the explosion. The explosion will happen in an attack on an oil field where the droid is patrolling. One of the wells is attacked by a smart munition and blown to hell. It’d be a really quick shot. I’m going to try and keep it under 20-30 seconds. The shorter the better. Attached are some dirt passes of the well model.
